BROWN BRIDGE QUIET AREA

 

Located in Grand Traverse County, 11 miles southeast of Traverse City on the Boardman River.

Mission Statement: Restore, preserve and protect the integrity of the natural environment, including its inhabitants, yet allow managed public use for generations to come.

Preserve the area in a natural state, while offering a quality "quiet area" recreational experience... for individuals or small groups of no more than ten at one time.

Fishing: 191 acre Brown Bridge Pond with boat launch and handicap fishing platform off Brown Bridge Road.

Flora: white cedar, balsam fir, black spruce, tamarack, white pine, birch, red maple, black ash, sedge, swamp milkweed, lady fern, blue-joint reedgrass, oak fern, wild lily-of-the-valley, bracken fern, rice grass, twisted-stalk, lowbrush blueberry, black huckleberry.

Wildlife: great blue herons, pileated woodpeckers, loons, bald eagles, osprey, red shouldered hawk, wood turtle, eastern box turtle, deer, black bear, bobcat, coyote, red fox, river otter, beaver, mink.

Approximately 1300 acres maintained by the City of Traverse City. Trails are restricted to walkers, skiers and snowshoers. Day use only. No hunting or trapping in the core area. No wake speed enforced on Brown Bridge Pond.
