The City of Traverse City is located in the heart of beautiful Grand Traverse County. Traverse City was incorporated in 1891 as a village and in 1895 as a City. It encompasses 8.09 square miles and is 626 feet above sea level.

The City has a Commission/City Manager form of Government. The Commission is the legislative and policy making branch of local government. The Commissioners appoint a City Manager to execute and administer policies.
