 Recycle Your Batteries - The Fire Department is currently accepting batteries for recycling.  Batteries may be dropped off at either Fire Station #1 on Front Street or Fire Station #2 on 8th Street...  Please NO vehicle batteries.

The Traverse City Fire Department is responsible for providing all emergency life safety services within the City limits. This includes such activities as fire attack and suppression, Medical Advanced Life Support, Confined Space and Hazardous Materials situations, and other emergency/ rescue services. The Traverse City Fire Department also provides non-emergent services such as inspections, code enforcement, and Public Education programs.

The department strives to maintain a partnership with the business community in the continued effort to correct life safety and fire hazards through our inspection/prevention and education processes. 

The Fire Department consists of the Fire Chief, an Administrative Assistant, 4 Captains (1 who serves as Fire Marshal), 4 Lieutenants (1 who serves as Training Officer), and 15 Firefighters.
