CITY DEPARTMENTS & SERVICES

Assessor
The City Assessor is responsible for maintaining an inventory of
and appraising all property within the City limits and convenes
the Board of Review in March. Staffs the
Board of Tax Review.

Clerk
The City Clerk serves as Clerk and official recorder for
the City Commission, administers City elections and voter
registration, HIPAA Privacy Official, FOIA Coordinator, acts as insurance administrator and licensing and
permit authority for the City, and staff for the
Elections Commission,
Local Officers Compensation
Commission, and the Cherry Capital Cable Council.

Department of Public
Services
The Director of Public Services oversees the Cemetery,
Water
Treatment Plant, Sewer and Water Maintenance Division, Streets,
Garage, Parks and Recreation,
Senior Center, Zoo
and the Marina.

Engineering
The Engineering Department provides professional engineering,
surveying work and technical assistance to other City
Departments.
|
Fire
The Fire Department is responsible for providing all emergency
life safety services within the City limits including fire, rescue
and medical services.
|
Human
Resources
The Human Resources Department is a branch of the City
Manager's Office and is responsible for administration of all employee
benefits, workers compensation administration, employee and labor
relations, compliance of legally mandated programs and recruitment
of new employees.

Manager
The City Manager is the City's Administrative Officer and is
responsible for implementing the policies and programs established
by the City Commission and includes human resources, legal
services, purchasing, web site development, traffic management,
rental housing administration and ADA Coordinator. Oversight
of the Museum. Staff for the Human Rights
Commission.

Planning & Zoning
The Planning Department prepares and administers the City
Plan, answers zoning and land use questions, and interprets
planning and zoning laws and land use principles. Staff for
the Historic Districts
Commission, Planning
Commission, and the
Board of Zoning Appeals.

Police
The primary function of this Department is to serve and
protect the citizens of the City.
|
Treasurer
The City Treasurer is responsible for the collection and
disbursement of all monies for the City, maintaining accounting
and financial records to document these transactions, Utility
Billing, and Budget preparation. Staff for the ACT 345 Retirement Board.

Water Treatment Plant
The Traverse City Water Treatment Plant provides quality drinking
water to customers in Traverse City, Garfield Township, Peninsula
Township and Elmwood Township.
