Act 345 -  Retirement Board         Maintains and administers a pension system for the benefit of fire and/police department personnel employed by the City; authorizes appropriations and deductions from salaries.
Brown Bridge Advisory Committee Makes recommendations to restore, preserve and protect the integrity of the Brown Bridge property under the direction of the City Manager.
City of Traverse City Building Authority This Authority is incorporated for the purpose of acquiring, furnishing, equipping, owning, improving, enlarging, operating and/or maintaining a building or buildings, automobile parking lots or structures and/or recreational facilities for legitimate public purpose of the City of Traverse City.
Downtown Development Authority Halts property value deterioration and increases property tax valuation where possible in the business district of the City; eliminates the causes of that deterioration and promotes economic growth.
Elections Commission Without policy-making authority, approves the City Clerk’s appointment of election inspectors and approves ballot printing in the case of a City election.
Historic Districts Commission Investigates and recommends to city Commission areas it deems valuable for designation as Historic Districts; recommends to City Commission structures it deems valuable for designation as Historic Landmarks, etc. Safeguards the heritage of the City.
Housing Commission Purchases, acquires, constructs, maintains, operates, improves, extends and repairs housing facilities; eliminates housing conditions which are detrimental to the public peace, health, safety, morals or welfare; issues notes and revenue bonds; regulates the issuance, sale, retirement and refunding of such notes and bonds; regulates the rentals of such projects and the use of the revenues of the projects; prescribes the manner of selecting tenants for such projects, etc.
Human Rights Commission Fosters mutual understanding and respect among all groups and discourages discriminatory practices, formulates and carries out programs of community education and information, receives and acts as conciliator regarding occurrences of acts of prejudice or discrimination, and secures the cooperation of various community groups in educational campaigns devoted to eliminating prejudice and discrimination.
Traverse Area District Library Board Formulates policy and sets budget for the Traverse Area District Library.
Traverse City Light & Power Board Has exclusive jurisdiction, control and management of the Light and Power Department and all its operations and facilities. Unless specifically allocated to the City Commission or to a City official, the Board has all the powers and duties possessed by the City to construct, acquire, expand and operate the Light and Power system, etc.
Local Officers Compensation Commission Determines the salaries of local elected officials, which determination shall be the salaries unless the legislative body, by two-thirds (2/3) of the members elected to and serving on the legislative body, rejects them. The Commission also makes recommendations regarding the compensation of local appointed officials who hold positions on boards, commissions, and committees under the jurisdiction of the City Commission.
Parks and Recreation Commission Makes recommendations (advisory capacity) to the City Commission on matters relating to the operation, development, and planning of parks, recreation and cemetery services and activities.
City Planning Commission Prepares and adopts the Master Plan for the City and reviews development proposals, both private and public, regarding their consistency with City plans.
Recreational Authority - Board of Directors
City of Traverse City & Garfield Township
This Authority is incorporated for the purpose of the acquisition, construction, operation, maintenance, or improvement of public recreation centers, public parks, and public conference centers as may be acquired by the Authority or as may be transferred to it by a participating municipality. The Authority may donate, sell, lease or transfer any such facilities so acquired only to a participating municipality.
Board of Tax Review Examines, reviews, and corrects the assessment roll.
Board of Zoning Appeals Hears and decides appeals where it is alleged by the applicant that there is an error in any order, requirement, etc. made by the Building Official, Zoning Administrator, etc. in administering or enforcing the provision of Ordinance.
