The City of Traverse City Parks and Recreation Department has a vast range of duties, facilities and programs for its citizens and guests. This division prides itself in providing an attractive community with fun things to do and pleasant places for people to go to spend their leisure time.
HERSHEY TRACK AND FIELD MEET
Traverse City Parks and Recreation will be hosting the 18th annual local Hershey Track and Field meet on Wednesday, June 16, 2010 at the T. C. Central Senior High track. The meet will begin at 9:30 a.m. with registration at 8:45 a.m. The meet is open to boys and girls born in the years 1996 to 2001. There is no charge for the event and first place finishers will be eligible to participate in the state meet July 10 in Holt Michigan.
The running events range from 50 meters to 1600 meters, depending on age group, and the field events are the standing long jump and softball throw. No track spikes are allowed. ICE SKATING RINKS
In the winter we create and maintain ice skating rinks, some with warming houses. There is no charge for use of these rinks. Weather permitting, the rinks will be open from early-January to early March. Warming house hours are Monday through Friday 3pm to 9pm, Saturday 12pm to 9pm, and Sunday 12pm to 8pm.
Rink locations: 14th and Pine Streets (Thirlby Field); State Street between Railroad and Hope (F&M Park - no warming house); and Rose Street near Carver (Traverse Heights Elementary School.
SOFTBALL LEAGUES
There is one women's church softball league of 6 teams. Games are played Tuesday and Thursday evenings.
The league fee for 2008 is $285, which includes approximately eight games for each team plus a double elimination tournament at the end of the season.

VOLLEYBALL LEAGUES
The Parks and Recreation Division offers men's A, women's "A" and "B" and co-ed "A" "B" and "C" volleyball leagues. In all divisions, "A" league will be for the more competitive teams and the "B" league for the teams that are interested in playing well, but where the competition is not as intense, and "C" co-ed is a recreational level league.
This usually includes two practice nights, approximately twelve game nights, a double elimination tournament, balls, nets, a paid official, trophies for the team sponsor for first and second place for the season, and a first place tournament plaque. The season runs from October through March.

West Grand Traverse Bay Beaches
West End Beach is located at Division Street (U.S. 31) and Grandview Parkway.
Clinch Park is at Cass Street and the Grandview Parkway.
Bryant Park is found at Garfield Avenue and Peninsula Drive.
East Grand Traverse Bay Beach
CHRISTMAS TREE CHIPPING DROP OFF
The Parks and Recreation Division offers a Christmas Tree drop off site in January. The trees are chipped and used for trail surfacing at Brown Bridge, mulching material and erosion control.
Trees can be brought to the boat launch parking lot at Hull Park on Hannah Street behind the Library between 8:00 am and 6:00 pm beginning December 26 through January 21. There is no charge for this service. Please do not leave trees in the alleys, streets or City parks, the City will not be collecting them there.
